500 sight saving cataracts in 12 months
Vanguard Health in collaboration with NT Health, Darwin Private Hospital and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations have completed 500 sight saving cataracts since 1 July 2023.

Our team have been in Katherine this week working alongside the surgical and outpatients teams in Katherine Hospital to perform our 500th successful cataract surgery as part of the IRIS 4.0 program. Our successful partnership with public and private providers across the Northern Territory has resulted in this positive milestone for the program. This week in Katherine the trip performed 28 cataract surgeries - which for our team is a record number of surgeries over two days at Katherine Hospital thanks to the support and coordination from the Katherine Hospital staff. We met and provided healthcare to First Nation People from across the Big Rivers Region. One patient who we were particularly pleased to provide healthcare services to was Kenny.
