The Vanguard Health surgical Ophthalmology team were in Weipa this month providing sight saving cataract surgery to patients across the Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service. We provide an integrated health care solution where our team work alongside staff at the Weipa Hospital to provide outpatient appointments, surgical interventions and post operative reviews. We had some exceptionally positive feedback from a patient post surgery on this latest trip that brought a smile to our faces Katherine rang the team crying in happy tears, she stated she could ‘see all her animals near her dam and it was beautiful’. Kathleen said could now ‘stand in her kitchen doing dishes and see the dust in her house’. She had ‘never been so happy to see dust’.
A cataract is a progressive clouding of the eye’s natural lens that interferes with light passing through to the retina. It is one of the most common eye conditions and it is treated via cataract surgery that is a procedure where they can be safely and successfully removed. Our team visit Weipa Hospital four (4) times a year providing cataract surgery collaboratively with the Queensland Health team.
