Australia's first Aboriginal Ophthalmologist, Adjunct Professor Dr Kris Rallah-Baker, has joined the successful Indigenous and Remote Eye Service with his first cataract surgery list delivered in Darwin in April in a collaboration between The Deadly Vision Centre, Darwin Private Hospital and Vanguard Health. The IRIS program a $3m Closing the Gap initiative of the Albanese Government has successfully delivered over 400 cataract procedures in the last 12 months to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the Northern Territory.

This collaboration further demonstrates IRIS is an accepted and effective “shared collaboration” platform for delivery of eye surgery outcomes for First Nations Australians.
